Another Homecoming for the books

As we move into the final push of the semester, we wanted to take a look back on some of our favorite moments from Homecoming 2017!

The week started on Oct. 16th with Mr. and Ms. SU. All of the contestants brought their A-game for a night of friendly competition filled with Stevenson pride and some surprises along the way. Sophomore Norman Greenwell cliched the Mr. SU title after a stirring lip sync performance, while Senior Priscilla Williams won over the crowd with her charisma and school spirit for the title of Ms. SU.

The Owings Mills Grass Field was a buzz with excitement as faculty, staff, students, and the whole Stevenson Football team showed up to support the Purple and Orange teams in the annual Powder Puff game! The most intense game in years-- the Orange team proved their success early by maintaining possession for a majority of the game. The Men’s Ice Hockey team wowed the crowed with their half time routine that could not have been pulled off without the help of the Stevenson Cheerleaders and Dance Team!

Immediately following the game, the Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Department lit the wooden stack assembled in the Caves parking Lot for one of the most quintessential homecoming events, Bonfire. Students enjoyed s’mores, hot chocolate, apple cider, lawn games, and performances while the fire burned long into the night. Special thank you to Athletics, SUSS, AKA, and Michael Ali for provided all of our entertainment!

On Saturday morning, we could not have asked for better weather as the Homecoming Tailgate went off without a hitch! Despite the bees, the new location on the North side of campus provided a relaxed environment for friends, family, students, alumni, faculty, and staff to enjoy lawn games and good food! President Hirschman was even on hand to enjoy his first Stevenson Homecoming!

Later that night, students danced the night away for a good cause! Members of the Stevenson University community including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends raised $4,800 for SBP, formerly St. Bernard Project. SBP is a New Orleans based non-profit focused on shrinking the time between disaster and recovery. SBP has been the community partner of the Alternative Break Program at Stevenson University, Mission: I’m Home. This black-tie optional event was sponsored and supported by Mission: I’m Home, MAP, MILE, R.I.S.E., Psychology Club, REAL Peer Educators, SGA and WORTH.

The Student Government Association and our event sponsors are thrilled by the level of engagement from the Stevenson Community. This initiative reflects our core values as an institution and we believe that incorporating philanthropic giving into the homecoming festivities made the week more meaningful for many members of our community.

The $4,800 that was raised through the Homecoming Benefit Ball is enough funds for SBP to provide:

- Four mold remediation treatments in four different homes

- Materials to frame a home

- A bathtub for one bathroom

- Paint for two rooms

Thank you to everyone who made the 2017 Homecoming a success! We will take a short break before we start planning for Homecoming 2018!
